How to connect AI to your email

The short version

To connect AI to your email, sign up for Airbox to get a private email address, link your AI provider — Claude, ChatGPT, Google Gemini, and more — with your own API key, then forward or BCC mail to that address. Airbox routes it to your AI and emails the answer back, so AI works inside the inbox you already use.

What you need

  • A free Airbox account
  • An API key from any supported AI provider
  • Optional: a Gmail, Outlook, or Apple Mail auto-forwarding rule to send matching mail automatically

Choose your AI provider

1. Get your Airbox address

Create a free account and open the dashboard to make an inbox. You get an unguessable address like c4f8xxxx@airbox.fyi. Save it as a contact or BCC it on outgoing mail. See the quick start for the full walkthrough.

2. Connect your AI

Connecting AI to your email takes one paste of an API key. Pick a provider below, then point a single inbox or an auto-forwarding rule at your Airbox address.

  1. Create an API key with your chosen provider (links in the guides below).
  2. In your Airbox dashboard, go to Connections → + AI & LLM provider and paste the key, then set it as an inbox default.
  3. Forward mail manually, BCC your Airbox address, or set a Gmail/Outlook/Apple Mail rule to auto-forward matching mail.

3. Send your first email

Forward or BCC any email to your Airbox address. To ask for something specific, put a short instruction on the trusted surface — the subject, the first body line, or a (* … *) block at the top:

Subject: Fwd: Q3 planning thread

(* @claude summarize this and list the action items *)

---------- Forwarded message ----------
...the email you forwarded...

Set up auto-forwarding in Gmail or Outlook to run newsletters, receipts, or any inbox through Airbox without lifting a finger.

Anything else in a forwarded email is treated as content to read, never as a command. More in the command syntax and forwarding guides.

What you can do

  • Run an entire inbox through AI with an auto-forward rule
  • Connect multiple AIs and route by inbox or project
  • Attach tools like Notion or GitHub so the AI can take action
  • Keep AI replies threaded in the mail you already use

Frequently asked questions

Do I have to forward every email by hand?
No. You can forward or BCC manually, or set up an auto-forwarding rule in Gmail or Outlook so matching mail reaches your Airbox address automatically.
Can I connect more than one AI?
Yes. Connect several providers and pick one per inbox, or switch per email with a target like @claude or @gemini.
How much does it cost?
Airbox has a free plan to get started. You bring your own AI provider API key, so you pay the provider directly for the tokens you use — there is no AI markup from Airbox.
Is it safe to point Airbox at my real email?
Yes — that's exactly what Airbox is designed for. Airbox only acts on mail from senders you allow, and it only treats the subject and first body line (or a (* … *) block) as instructions. Everything else in a forwarded email is quarantined as untrusted content and never obeyed for your own security and privacy. Your API keys stay fully encrypted.
